INSTRUCTION:
Based on FLIP group topic research, produce a basic video animation.
DESCRIPTION:
Using a processed design framework, you will now produce an infographic report to present the given information to a ‘target audience’ with the purpose of:
- Creating awareness (such as Global Warming, Recycle, etc.)
- Explaining a process (such as "how to" video)
- Defining a concept (such as "What is Fast Fashion", "What is Color Wheel", etc.)
Any time based media and software using photography, vector imagery.
Design Considerations:
- Organization Principles – LATCH and Content Organization
- Aesthetic Principles – Animation principles
- Cognitive Principles – Principles of visualization
Output Expectation:
The presentation must be deliberated on, consider each assessment rubric of sorts to your final outcome:
- Show causality
- Multivariate graphics and visuals
- Integrate word number and images
- Content count
- Within eyesight
- Use multiple charts
- Do not de-quantify
1. Proposal
During the first week, we considered three potential topics:
- How to make a chocolate cake? (Explaining a process)
- What is procrastination? (Defining a concept)
- What is a balanced diet? (Raising awareness)
After a careful discussion, we decided on "What is a balanced diet?" as our project focus, as it highlights the importance of health awareness and promotes better eating habits.
2. Pre-Produciton
The pre-production phase focused on planning the visual and structural elements to ensure a clear, engaging, and informative animation.
Mood Board & Visual Direction
This is when I and Jun Ming created a mood board to identify the color palette, typography, and aesthetic, ensuring design consistency throughout the animation.
Wireframe & Sketches
After having done our mood board, were able to proceed with the wireframes and sketches. The sketch process and wireframes were done by Iman, helping us visualize the flow of the video and gave us a better understanding of what changes might need to be done before we moved on towards our illustration and animation.
3. Production
Yan Zhi Xuan would then move on to illustrate the visuals prior to animating our infographic video. Once the wireframes were finalized, we utilized Adobe Illustrator to design illustrations and scene layouts, ensuring a clean, visually appealing aesthetic while maintaining thematic consistency.
Ai Digitisation
With our visual direction, storyboard, and design elements set, we progressed to the production phase, where we transformed our sketches and wireframes into polished digital illustration and animation. These were then animated to enhance engagement, with voiceovers added for a more immersive experience.
Ae Animation
Once the illustrations were completed, Jun Ming and I animated the scenes in After Effects, incorporating movement, smooth transitions, and effects to enhance the infographic’s engagement.
CapCut Editing & Voice Acting
With the animation finalized, Jie Xuan and Xiang Lam took charge of voice acting and editing to complete the video. They began by recording the voiceover based on the script, ensuring the narration seamlessly matched the visuals for a natural flow.
For background music and sound effects, they sourced audio from Douyin and YouTube, adding depth and energy to the animation.
Finally, they assembled everything in CapCut, aligning the voiceover, incorporating sound effects, and fine-tuning the timing to ensure a smooth and well-paced animation. With these final touches, our infographic animation was complete.
4. Post Production
After completing the animation and editing, we moved into post-production to refine details, ensure smooth transitions, and finalize the output. We reviewed the animation to identify improvements before submission.
Final Feedback & Refinements
In Week 6, Mr. Fauzi highlighted a spelling error in "Protein," suggested speeding up the nutrients chart, adding numbering, enlarging text in Scene 4, and refining the abrupt ending.
By Week 7, we shortened a blank screen between Scenes 3 and 4, removed a pen element in Scene 4-1, added more animation in Scene 4-2, and adjusted the voiceover for better sync. These refinements made the final animation smoother and more engaging.

REFLECTION
Experience:
My experience with this project was overall good. Through this project it helped me understand the process it takes in working in a team towards the production of an animated video. My groupmates were kind enough to allow me to join after a week and helped in catching up with what there is to do. We had a few meetings that discussed the way we should approach the project and designated everyone with task that helped each other with our designated work.
Observation:
I find that through this project there was a lot of hurdles when it came to group work. Since the program we use are primarily on individual stations, it sometimes doesn't help when two or more people are tasked with something like illustrator or after effects. As ensuring the same quality is when the same task are split is sometimes concerning. Although I think the true essence in the group work is how the discussion and division of work is done which turn out quite nice. As it shined some perspective in the production of a video team.
Findings:
I find that this project overall helped achieve the objective of the module. Although it was different from the poster, it did helped enhance all aspect of what we've learnt so far. I believe that in the future maybe there could be a program or software that would allow multiple people to work together on one file that is accessible to everyone and is widely use in the professional scene.
